A 1999 VW Jetta that was purchased from my Grandmother from Alberta in 2016 when she finally decided to stop driving. In 2012 at 46,000kms the vehicle was hit in the right rear quarter panel and received enough damage for insurance to write-off the car. Instead of having the car written off, my grandmother elected to keep the vehicle and paid Southgate Collison Repair Centre ~$7,000 to fix the vehicle. I have all receiepts of work performed, Government of AB record of inspection and the out of province paperwork that was completed when I brought the car to BC. The workmanship of the repair looks excellent and there are no traces of the accident present; in regards to both drive-ability and aesthetics.
Other than the rebuilt title, this is a wonderful vehicle that has served me well as a commuter for the past 1.5 years. It has been maintained well and has never let me down. The heated seats and AC work well, brakes are newish and timing belt was done at 52,000km. The car has a set of all season tires with about 80% tread left. The 2.0L engine gets decent gas mileage at ~500km / tank and the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. This would make a great economical commuter for someone.
The car does have a few quirks / issues, which are listed below:
- Paint is in 6/10 shape with scuffs, scratches and dings here and there
- Driverside window controls do not work when vehicle is running. All other window controls work.
- Front brake rotor is warped and will shimmy under certain braking conditions
- Suspension bushings are a little tired and will clunk occasionally on rough roads
